Connect Ahrefs to Relato with the Ahrefs MCP

Pull Ahrefs keyword difficulty, search volume, and backlink data into your Relato briefs and drafts through the Ahrefs MCP.

Written by David Baum

You can connect Ahrefs to Relato so your AI Content Agents pull SEO data straight into their work. This page is the short version. The full connect flow lives in the parent article below.

What you can do

Once Ahrefs is connected, an agent can query Ahrefs while it researches and drafts. Common uses:

  • Pull keyword difficulty and search volume for a target topic.

  • Read backlink data to judge how competitive a page will be to rank.

  • Write those numbers into the project brief so every draft starts from real SEO inputs.

These are research inputs. The agent uses them to shape better briefs and drafts, not to publish.

Connect Ahrefs

In Relato, open Settings > Integrations > MCP > Add account, paste the Ahrefs MCP URL, approve the OAuth prompt, and name the account. The name you choose prefixes Ahrefs tools in the agent tool picker. Then attach the Ahrefs tools plus the Relato query and project tools to an agent, and set a trigger: a project stage change, a schedule, or a manual run. You usually attach these to a research or brief-building agent. For the full walkthrough, read Connect any MCP to Relato.

A good first agent

Build a brief-builder. Trigger it when a project moves into your research stage. Give it the Ahrefs tools plus the Relato query and project tools. Tell it to look up the target keyword, read the difficulty, search volume, and top backlink signals, then write a short SEO section into the project brief. Now every writer, human or agent, opens the project with the numbers already in place.

A note on OAuth

Relato's MCP integration is OAuth-based. You can connect Ahrefs if it runs an OAuth-capable MCP server that Relato can reach. If a public OAuth MCP for Ahrefs does not exist yet, tell us at [email protected] and we will help you find the right path.

FAQ

Do I need my own Ahrefs plan? Yes. The MCP connects your own Ahrefs access to Relato, so your usage and limits are your account's.

Which agent should hold the Ahrefs tools? A research or brief-building agent. Keep the tools on the agent that gathers inputs, not on the one that ships copy.
