Every project in Relato can carry a search target. When you assign a keyword to a project and fill in its SEO fields, your writers and agents know exactly what the piece should rank for, and the finished content ships written for search from the start. Why target a keyword per project

A keyword gives a project a single, concrete goal. Instead of writing broadly and hoping it lands, you point the piece at one search term you want to win, then support it with a few related terms. That focus carries through the SEO title, the SEO description, and the brief you hand to your agent, so the draft is built around the target rather than edited toward it afterward.

Set up keywords on a project

  1. Choose a target keyword. Pick the one search term the piece should rank for. Keep it specific enough that you can write a focused piece around it.

  2. Assign it to the project. On the project, open the SEO section and set your primary target keyword.

  3. Add secondary keywords. In the same section, add any related terms you want the piece to cover. These give the writer supporting angles without pulling focus from the primary target.

  4. Write the SEO title. Fill in the project's SEO title field. Work the target keyword in naturally so search engines and readers both see the match.

  5. Write the SEO description. Fill in the SEO description (meta description) field with a short, accurate summary of the piece. This is what can show under your title in search results.

  6. Brief the agent or writer. With the keywords and SEO fields set on the project, your agent and writers have a clear target. Tell them to write toward the primary keyword and to fold in the secondary terms where they fit.

  7. Connect Google Search Console to track it. Tracking is separate from targeting. Once the piece is published, connect Google Search Console to see impressions, clicks, and positions for the content over time. See the GSC article below for setup.

Tips

  • Use one primary target keyword per piece. A single focus ranks better than a piece stretched across several targets.

  • Write the keyword into the SEO title naturally, in a way that still reads well to a person.

  • Revisit your keyword choice after Google Search Console data lands. Real impressions and positions tell you whether the target was right or whether a related term is the one gaining ground.

Can I set more than one keyword on a project?

Yes. You set one primary target keyword and can add optional secondary keywords alongside it. The primary is the main term the piece should rank for, and the secondary keywords give the writer supporting angles.

Where do I see how a keyword is performing?
