Connect Marketo to Relato with the Marketo MCP

Written by David Baum

Connect Marketo to Relato so your AI Content Agents can build finished emails into Marketo Engage and keep marketing content in sync, from inside Relato.

What you can do

Once Marketo is connected, an agent can:

  • Build a finished Relato project into a Marketo email, from one of your templates.

  • Create and tag the Marketo program the email belongs to.

  • Update the email when the Relato project changes, so the two stay in sync, ready for your team to send.

Connect Marketo

In Relato open Settings > Integrations > MCP > Add account, paste the Marketo MCP URL (marketo-mcp.adobe.io/mcp), authenticate with your Marketo credentials when prompted, and name the account. Adobe hosts this server and accepts your Marketo client credentials, or an Adobe IMS token, per request; it does not store them. The name you give it prefixes that service's tools in the agent tool picker. Then attach the Marketo tools plus the Relato query and project tools to an agent, and set a trigger: a project stage change, a schedule, or manual. For the full walkthrough see Connect any MCP to Relato. For the connector itself, see Adobe's official Marketo MCP documentation.

A good first agent

Create an agent called Marketo publisher. Attach the Marketo tools plus the Relato query and project tools. Set its instructions to: read the project when it reaches the Ready stage, create a Marketo email from your chosen template with the subject, preview text, and body mapped in, and place it in the right program. Have it leave the email as a draft in Marketo so your team reviews and sends it. Set the trigger to the stage change so each ready project lands in Marketo ready to go.

A note on authentication

Relato connects to Adobe's hosted Marketo server. Authentication uses your Marketo client credentials or an Adobe IMS token, passed per request and not stored, so you will need a Marketo Engage instance with API access. One current limit: building and firing the send campaign from an agent is on Adobe's roadmap for later in 2026, so today an agent prepares the email in Marketo and your team sends it. If you cannot reach the server, tell us at [email protected] and we will help you find a path.

FAQ

Can an agent send the email itself? Not yet. An agent creates the email and its program in Marketo and leaves it ready, and a person sends it or an existing campaign does. Adobe has agent-built send campaigns slated for later in 2026.

Can it update an email after the project changes? Yes. The agent can update the email's content sections in Marketo when the Relato project changes, so the two stay in sync.
